Here at Quid Pod Quo we don’t review comedies often, but we made an exception for 22 Jump Street, the sequel to the surprise hit parody of the 80’s cop show. This is also our third Channing Tatum movie review in 2014. Is Justine stacking the deck or is Jared finally admitting he likes the pretty boy action star? Is this a worthy follow up to the original? What lessons did the directing duo of Lord & Miller take from their previous hit The LEGO Movie and apply to this raunchy flick? Listen and find out!
This episode delay brought to you by springtime flu! Justine had a bout when we were originally supposed record, and then when she finally got over it, I got hit just before editing. Ugh. Oh well, better to have the flu than to be caught in the crosshairs of either mysterious assassin Hanna or badass bounty hunter Domino. At least the flu won’t put an arrow or a bullet through your chest. Check out our thoughts on these killer women as well as the state of serialized fiction in our latest episode of Quid Pod Quo!
Surprise! Before we review Frozen and Veronica Mars, we’re dropping a special episode where we discuss the #1 movie in the world for three weeks in a row, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Part review, part discussion about the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole. Is this the best Marvel movie yet, or is it just a lot of Hydra Hype? Listen to hear what we think!
And if you loved The Winter Soldier, check out Acme Comics‘ back issue selections and stock up on your Captain America issues. Use code “QuidPro” and get 15% off your total purchase!
I forget where the name of this episode came from, we were pretty tired when we recorded. Join us as we review two horror films. First up the latest from indie horror darlings Adam Wingard & Simon Barrett, You’re Next. Then we discuss the latest from Rob Zombie, The Lords of Salem. One of them was my favorite horror movie I’ve seen in a while! Which one? Listen and see!

Yes folks, we tried to review three movies this week. Though, to be fair Olympus Has Fallen and White House Down are so similar they might as well be the same movie. Rounding out our trifecta is G.I. Joe Retaliation, which, believe it or not, we spend a lot of time discussing. Three loud action flicks? Leave your brain at the door this week kids!
And lest you think the title of this episode was inspired by Lil Wayne…
In this episode of Quid Pod Quo, we look at two (relatively) modern spins on fairy tales: Ever After, a retelling of Cinderella; and Ridley Scott’s original fable, Legend.
Also, during our “Once & Future Queue” we mention “You Are Not Alone” published by Grayhaven Comics; an anti-bullying comic book anthology that Justine contributed a story to. Please pick up a copy for yourself and for anyone you know who may be a victim of violence, homophobia, racism, etc and spread the word that they are not alone! You can purchase the comic here.
P.S. During part of our review of Ever After our steam radiator decides to grace the podcast with its presence. Apologies for the high pitched whistling.
I’m sure when people heard there was going to me a “LEGO Movie”, countless eyes rolled across the world. But several excellent reviews and $100 million later, and eyes aren’t rolling anymore. But what do we, as both parents and LEGO fanatics, think of the latest kid’s movie phenomenon? Listen and find out!
Quid Pod Quo goes all-out this week reviewing two incredibly violent flicks. The 1987 sci-fi classic, Robocop and the cartoony, over-the-top gun fest from 20 years later, Shoot ‘Em Up. Both are Jared’s picks, so take a listen to see if Justine could stomach either movie!
As Jared mentioned on this episode, Robocop director Paul Verhoeven has mentioned in an interview the connection between Robocop & Jesus. Check it out below!
